| As you make your way through this section of the museum, be ever mindful that in Paris in the 19th century, existed the artistic climate that fostered one of the most remarkable developments in the history of art. Where the whole language of painting was made into a more expressive instrument for the transmission of human feelings and emotions. Courbet and Manet; Degas, Monet, and Cezanne; Seurat, Gauguin, and van Gogh: the list of names summarizes what is surely one of the greatest artistic achievements of mankind, and one that we in the 20th century cherish for its continuing relevance to our times. |
